Notes of: warm amber, sweet musk, and rich oud.
Named in honor of my late mother, the original Zuleika Bukhoor Incense Blend was sourced by her in the old city of Sana’a, just days before she made her final transition from this world. It was then carefully handcrafted by my older sister in Yemen, Asnaa, who followed my mother’s recipe.
Bukhoor is the Arabic name for a blend of fragrance oils, spices, and other natural ingredients specially chosen for their scent. When burned over charcoal, it emits an aromatic smoke. For centuries bukhoor has served as an ambiance for therapy, meditation, special occasions, and welcoming guests.
Size: 50 grams
How to use: After lighting charcoal with a flame, carefully place a piece of incense on top. For a slower, cleaner burn, place a mica plate on the charcoal before adding bakhoor.
Each piece will burn for 4 - 6 mins. The aromatic scent fills the space for hours after vary by size of the space.
Giving: A portion of our proceeds from this special batch will serve as the seed funding to continue mama’s legacy: supporting women in Yemen in their quest to become entrepreneurs.
WARNING: Do not allow it to burn unsupervised. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid putting in drafty areas or near any flammable materials. Do not directly inhale smoke.
Just received our amazingly beautiful Zuleika bakhoor today. Simply heavenly! The best smelling bakhoor made with love and care. Burning just a small piece has spread the smell throughout our house. The combination of amber, oud and jasmine in this bakhoor is perfection. Many thanks to the Mennas team for sharing your family gift with the rest of us.
Unlike anything. Beautiful packaging. Great gift for family and friends. The home smells like serenity and peace. Thank you MENNAS Team!
I was very amazed with the gift packaging, postcards, etc. It was more than I expected when I ordered the Zuleikha bukhoor. I love the art on the package which was designed by an artist. All of it. I have yet to light my bukhoor as I just received and opened it, but I can say the second I took a sniff of it in the jar I could tell this was good, high quality stuff. The bukhoor I currently have is my mom’s that she’s kept for at least a decade because that’s how long it’s been since we last visited Yemen. Something about when I use it in my apartment doesn’t quite hit the way it used to, I remember smelling the bukhoor as it’s burning as a kid and it smelled nice during and after the bukhoor. The bukhoor I currently have doesn’t smell good as I remember as it’s burning and it’s only the after smell that really hits, so that's made me sorta sad. When I told my mom I think her bukhoor has gotten too old and it doesn’t hit the way I used to remember, she didn’t believe me and said it’s just fine and bukhoor doesn’t expire/get old. But after smelling the Zuleikha bukhoor from the jar I smelled a strong, beautiful bukhoor smell I haven’t smelled in a long time. This is how my mom’s bukhoor used to smell when I was younger, before you even light it. My current/old bukhoor has a light but nice smell in its jar, but as soon as I compared smelling both I could see the instant difference. Not only have I confirmed the fancy schmancy expensive bukhoor that I have is too old to live up to what it used to be (and I would’ve continued using if not for Mennas making Yemeni-made bukhoor more accessible for Yemenis and others in the US), I can’t wait to use the Zuleikha bukhoor and 100% relive the memories of home, Yemen, and my childhood in a Yemeni-Miami household. Shukran!
Excellent burn, superior quality and scent. Worth every penny.
So glad I was able to get a hold of the last batch of Zuleika. Such a wonderful scent! I think I am addicted, or at least getting close, to using just before prayer.
